Hello Lovely.
Oooofff — it’s been another doozie of a week in the world and the chaos doesn’t seem to be slowing down. In fact, it seems to be ramping up. So much so, that this two-week old quote from one of my favorite Substacks seems passé, yet it sums up my sentiments rather well:
“The dismantling of diversity, equality, and inclusion—has us seeing RED. Literally. Especially when Fortune 500 companies that “publicly value diversity and/or inclusion are on average associated with $2.3 billion more profit and on average $11.3 billion higher revenue than those companies leaving diversity off their list of values. To combat our outrage, we signed up for Rising Organizers, a free resource that offers training on civic engagement.”
To soothe my nerves, I’ve been taking more hikes with my dogs and dialing back my media intake (not avoiding the issues, just scaling back on the barrage).
As fate would have it, these soul soothing ranch hikes took a stinky turn when my pack discovered a dead fish along the shores of our pond and found its olfactory characteristics too good not to roll in (not so soothing).
In light of the way these world events make me and others feel, I needed to keep things light for this issue—easy to write, easy to read. Here’s to the light and easy.

Introducing Health & Wellness
I’ve been mulling over the idea of adding a new category since last summer — weighing the pros and cons, obsessing on which topics would live under this new category, wondering if I should lump these article ideas on our dogs’ physical health and mental wellbeing under a singular heading or create separate ones for each. The content on these subject matters is vast.
In equal measure, I wondered if I should just keep TL’s website and newsletter ‘as is’. Keep it as one, long list of articles. There’s beauty in that simplicity.
Then I realized that I’m doing what I try very hard not to do these days: chase my own tail. There’s a fine line between what I think are my well thought-out plans with great attention to detail that leaves no stone unturned and what some have called OCD.
I can finally say I’m done straddling that fence post of indecision and happy to introduce you to TL’s newest category called “Health & Wellness”. You’ll find it on the main navigation of our website.
It’s devoted to our dogs’ whole body wellness — helping you to better understand medical conditions and diseases that affect our dogs, sharing practical solutions to common concerns, and exploring various types of activities that promote a physically and emotionally healthy dog.
I’m open to your suggestions for topics and ready to answer questions you may have. If there’s something you’ve been curious about let me know and I’ll happily dive into it.
In Other News
I’m playing around with TL’s branding pieces and their placements within the email newsletter, website and mobile devices. Based on the Substack layout the visuals vary ever so slightly within each of those components so I’m just trying to see what works for me and what doesn’t.
You may notice some of my whoopsies. For instance, in December I thought I was quite clever modifying the logo to give it a glimmer of holiday festiveness — only to realize that when I replaced the main logo with the holiday logo I deleted it from the servers. So if you save your issues of TL in your inbox you’ll notice the logo no longer appears at the top. Whoops.
As always, thanks for being part of this journey!
Thank you for reading and your thoughtful feedback.
